Roger Boshier, Professor of Educational Studies at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Roger Boshier has taught in Chinese universities and is helping authorities there build a “learning society” in China.

From his speech at Youth for Youth concert May 6th, 2009

“Among poor families scarce resources are focussed on boys. Girls are often shunted into the background through no fault of their own. Or they are kept home to work land or mind younger siblings”.

“The education of girls is one of the top UN Millenium goals.”

“The Educating Girls of Rural China project is a marvellous demonstration of what it means to be Canadian at the dawn of the 21st century. “

This project is an example of person-to-person diplomacy and donors can be absolutely certain their contributions go to the education of girls.” It reinforces the Canadian reputation for kindness and generosity. It is a testament to what can be achieved when people of goodwill work together.”

Kirk Tougas is an important figure in Canadian documentary Film making industry. As a director of documentary film photography he has traveled to many countries and made over 200 documentary films.

From an email Kirk Tougas to Tien Ching, dated on May 7th, 2009:

“Despite all the time and effort it must take to assist all the women in your project, I can understand your enthusiasm. How rare to have such a direct influence on so many lives!

Your project embodies very Canadian values -- the education and equality of women - and projects these values from here out into the world”.
